Scam Response from Craigslist Ad
Here's the text of the most recent scam response I received from my ESL advertisement on craigslist.org. As I've mentioned before, I always receive at least one of these scam responses whenever I post a new ad.
The title of the email to me was "Good Day Teacher.........."
Here's the text of the email.
"Hello,
how are you doing today ,i took a brief look at your Advert and i am impressed and interested in your lesson ,my son is coming for an holiday coaching in your area ,he is 12years old,he knows a little about this lesson,I don't want him to be less busy in the time of the day , so i have decided to let him attend your lesson , he will be coming 3hours in A DAY (9am to 12am) or anytime you have fixed within the Day time ,so i want you to calculate the cost for 3 week and send me the total cost ,i will be paying you with cashier check ,so get back to me with your cost . i will like to hear from you soon. regards
Joel thompson"
The email address was thompsjoel@gmail.com.

It is instructor beware on Craig's List. Send any advert which is in question, with the subject "ABUSE" to abuse@craigslist.org
This will be the quickest way to shutting these types of operations down ASAP.

Beware taken. He sent me an email to an advertisment I have on craigslist as well. I am selling some bedroom furniture. He asked me to take the items off craigslist. Once I asked him for a cahsiers check, the name and number of his movers. He didn't respond. Then I sent another email telling him I am aware of scams online. And haven't heard back from him also.
Got 2 similar responses which could be used to respond to any for sale ad. I'm selling a drum set lol.

I'm kinda new to posting ads on the internet... is he scamming you for money, or for free items, and if so how?
Hi Antoine,
The scam is to try to get money from tutors and others.
Please see this link http://www.esl-tutor.com/2007/04/scamming-esl-tutors-on-craigslistorg_16.html for details about how the scam works. (You'll probably have to cut-and-paste the link into your browser.)
Best,
Debra
I had totally forgotten my ad. placed on Craigslist a month ago, but was reminded when I got a reply this morning. I recognized the red flags at once: poor English, unnecessary use of caps, irregular spacing....
I had almost fallen prey to one last year, and learnt much since then.
Here is his text:
Hello tutor,
Are you available to tutor my son he is 15yrs,name Pat?Get back to me with the details requested so that we can proceed from there asap.
I've arranged with a caregiver in USA that my child is coming to stay with him for his period of tutoring and he had agreed with me. I want you to get back to me with following details:
1)your present residence address and tel #
2)total cost of tutoring for 2 months (1 hour per day 3 days /week)
3)your years of teaching experience.
Payment via cashier's check, looking forward to hearing from you soonest.
Regards to you and your family
God Bless
Regards,
MY REPLY
Yes, and I suppose you will send me a cashiers check so I can send money to his caregiver etc etc etc.
My question is this:
Why don't you try a new scam or get the hell a job for yourself?
If you do not improve your pitiful English level, everyone can find you out easily. Face it - you are not good at this. I don't know where you are from, but there must be something else for folk to do out there than steal! Get a life!
